More About RED LION

OverviewRED LION

The Red Lion is situated at the heart of the scenic Suffolk village of Chelmondiston, on the beautiful Shotley Peninsula, just a short distance from Ipswich. It is not far from Woolverstone Marina and within a short walking distance of the river Orwell at Pin Mill.

A tavern that serves freshly cooked food made with local ingredients and wine that has been thoughtfully paired. There is something for everyone among the many alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available—a fairly equalitarian setting for your celebration with friends, family, kids, and four-legged companions. Red Lion caters to all dietary needs and requirements. Veg lovers are not an afterthought for us at all.

We are currently open five days a week, from Wednesday to Sunday. We pride ourselves on being a child-friendly and dog-friendly pub; we have great joy in saying we always have local ales and beer on tap, and our regulars have very well received them. We accommodate walking groups, and muddy boots are always welcome.

DiscoverOur Story

The Red Lion   is run by husband and wife team chefs Mauli and Bhumika; together, they bring the best of modern British food and Indian hospitality. Chef Mauli has 25 years of experience in the industry in India and England. He creates and presents exciting dishes using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients on his menu.

Bhumika imparts welcoming Indian hospitality to the business ethos and put her heart and soul where our guests are the core of our business. We welcome you to come to enjoy our delicious food and hospitality.
